Hello, the Didi drivers cancel my ride when they see my passport. Where nearby can I hail a regular taxi?

How to use this card
- Save the image to your phone before traveling. We recommend screenshotting all 12 rescue cards and saving them to a dedicated “China Travel” album on your phone, so they’re available offline.
- Open the image after your second or third Didi cancellation, when you realize the app is not going to work today.
- Show the Chinese text (top half of the card) to a passerby, a security guard, or a hotel doorman. The pinyin is there as backup if they want to read it phonetically.
- Read the English translation to understand their directions back to you.
What they will likely say
- “前面路口就有” (There’s one at the next intersection) — They are directing you to a taxi stand, usually near a mall or hotel entrance.
- “我帮你叫一辆” (I’ll call one for you) — A local may offer to use their own Didi account (which is more likely to be accepted) and redirect the ride to you.
- “用高德地图” (Use Amap / Gaode Maps) — Gaode is the Chinese Google Maps equivalent and is sometimes more foreigner-tolerant than Didi.
- “打这个电话” (Call this number) — They’ll give you the local taxi-dispatch hotline, which dispatches meter-registered taxis that cannot refuse foreign passengers.
Pro tips
- Walk to the nearest large hotel or shopping mall entrance — there is almost always a taxi stand there, and the drivers there are professional and used to foreigners.
- Try the English Didi interface — Didi’s English app version matches you with drivers who have opted in to foreign-passenger rides. Cancellation rate drops to near zero.
- Use Alipay’s built-in taxi feature — open Alipay → 首页 → 出行 (Travel) → 打车 (Taxi). It uses a different driver pool than the regular Didi app and accepts foreign cards.
- Keep your destination written in Chinese on a separate screenshot so any taxi driver can read it without a translation app.
- Screenshots work offline — make sure you have the image saved to your phone, not just bookmarked in a browser.

When this won’t help
If you’re in a remote area with zero taxis passing and no Didi drivers accepting, this card won’t conjure a car. Instead:
- Walk to a main road or highway on-ramp — flag-down traffic is much higher on arterial roads than in residential compounds.
- Ask a local to call you a taxi on their phone — drivers who accept a Chinese passenger’s ride are far less likely to cancel.
- Use the official China Taxi hotline 12328 (city code) — this dispatches licensed meter taxis and most drivers will pick up.
- Take the metro as a fallback — it is rarely foreigner-discriminated and covers most Chinese cities’ central districts.
