Alipay Payment Failed

How to use this card

1. Save the image to your phone before traveling. We recommend screenshotting all 12 rescue cards and saving them to a dedicated “China Travel” album on your phone, so they’re available offline.
2. Open the image when your Alipay or WeChat Pay shows an error at a small shop or street stall.
3. Show the Chinese text (top half of the card) to the vendor. The pinyin is there as backup if they want to read it phonetically.
4. Read the English translation to understand their response.

What the vendor will likely say

• “OK，现金” (OK, cash) — They accept cash. Most small vendors in China carry small change.
• “微信转账” (WeChat transfer) — They prefer WeChat. Show them your WeChat QR code and they can scan to pay.
• “试试别的支付方式” (Try another payment method) — They want you to try a different card or app.
• “没有零钱” (No change) — They can’t break large bills. Try a smaller purchase or pay exact change.

Pro tips

• Carry at least ¥200 in small bills (¥10, ¥20) as backup. Most small vendors in China are still cash-friendly as a fallback.
• Set up WeChat Pay as a backup before your trip. WeChat sometimes works when Alipay fails (or vice versa).
• Check your international card’s anti-fraud settings before traveling — many banks flag China transactions as suspicious and block them automatically.
• Screenshots work offline — make sure you have the image saved to your phone, not just bookmarked in a browser.

When this won’t help

If the failure is on YOUR end (your card was declined), this card won’t solve it. Instead:

• Call your bank’s international number (on the back of your card) to authorize the transaction
• Try a different card if you have one
• Ask the vendor to try a smaller amount — some banks cap single international transactions
• Switch to cash if you have any
