How to use this card
- Save it before you travel. Download the whole pack from /rescue-cards/ and it works offline — no app, no data plan.
- Show the big Chinese line to whoever you are talking to. They read characters; the English at the bottom is for you.
- Say it out loud too if they hesitate. A spoken request gets a faster answer than a silent card, and repeating it removes all doubt.
- Read the English to understand the reply.
What they will likely say
- “坐四号线,B出口出来。” — Take line 4 and come out at exit B.
- “换乘要再坐两站。” — You will need to change trains and ride two more stops.
- “这个站没有那个出口。” — That exit does not exist at this station.
- “跟着指示牌走就行。” — Just follow the signs.
Pro tips
- Show the exit letter together with the destination — a driver can tell you the line but will not always remember which exit you need.
- Every station has a staffed booth (服务亭) near the gates. If the sign is unclear, the attendant will walk you to the right exit.
- Save 支付宝 into Alipay before you travel: the transit QR code works on every metro system in China, and buying single tickets at a machine with a foreign card frequently fails.
