How to use this card
- Save it before you travel. Download the whole pack from /rescue-cards/ and it works offline — no app, no data plan.
- Show the big Chinese line to whoever you are talking to. They read characters; the English at the bottom is for you.
- Say it out loud too if they hesitate. A spoken request gets a faster answer than a silent card, and repeating it removes all doubt.
- Read the English to understand the reply.
What they will likely say
- “不远,走路十分钟。” — Not far — ten minutes on foot.
- “有点远,打车吧。” — It is a bit far, take a taxi.
- “走路要一个小时。” — It is an hour on foot.
- “那边有点堵车。” — There is a bit of traffic that way.
Pro tips
- Watch the answer to the time question, not the distance. “十分钟” from someone in a hurry means maybe fifteen.
- A 1.5 km radius is the practical walking limit in a Chinese city in summer. Beyond that, ¥10–20 on Didi beats an hour of heat.
- If they answer with a distance in 公里 (gōnglǐ) and a big number, they are being honest. Believe them.
