How to use this card
- Save it before you travel. Download the whole pack from /rescue-cards/ and it works offline — no app, no data plan.
- Show the big Chinese line to whoever you are talking to. They read characters; the English at the bottom is for you.
- Say it out loud too if they hesitate. A spoken request gets a faster answer than a silent card, and repeating it removes all doubt.
- Read the English to understand the reply.
What they will likely say
- “这个五十。” — This one is fifty.
- “你要几个?” — How many do you want?
- “便宜一点,三十五卖给你。” — Cheaper — thirty-five for you.
- “这个不贵,很便宜。” — This one is not expensive, very cheap.
Pro tips
- At any price above a few hundred yuan, weigh the item, look at your phone, and then make your offer. That pause is the whole negotiation.
- 说贵了 (shuō guì le, “you are asking too much”) is a statement, not a question, and it is the correct way to open a counter-offer.
- Convinced the price is fake? Ask 最低多少钱 (zuìdī duōshao qián) — “what is the lowest price”. It signals you know there is a floor.
